Isle of Man Holiday -- No. 02, The Fairy Bridge and the Fairy Garden

The Fairy Bridge, and the Garden are on the road to the airport from Douglas. It is customary to say hello and goodbye to the Fairy as you pass. That brings good luck.

You can stop there to post a letter to the Fairy. Just leave it in his garden.

Chances are if the letter contains a wish, the Fairy will make it come true.

Adi can. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Have a nice walk, then it's back to work for her

[click here if the YouTube video doesn't play]

Our walk was long and interesting. We went about two miles this morning, but had four six stops. Another stop was for a glass of water from a golf course water cooler, last was just across the street from our house.

Adi just had to have this little roll.

Our first stop was here, we talked with Dean for several minutes. There is a turtle here waiting for us to go on. Several turtles live in the puddle.

Our second stop was up the sidewalk/golf cart path a little ways. Diane was on her way to play golf, but she stopped to talk with Adi.

Diane also has a therapy dog and will share time this year with Adi and I visiting at a local assisted living center.

Our third stop was a surprise. The last time I had seen this fellow he had two Corvettes and the family car. This Harley replaced his older Corvette. It now has about 800 miles on it.

See the black post in the background. That holds the hoist up, on the hoist is his late model Corvette. Before he did not have room for his three cars in the two car garage.

I think I need one of those hoists and a Harley in exchange for a car.

Our last stop was when we ran across our friend, Ginger. Ginger was out scrubbing her newly surfaced driveway. It had a tire track on it.

"All play and no work make Adi and Jim dull guys."

When I spray for weeds I generally find a fire ant bed or two. Today was no exception. Adi helps me find both weeds and fire ants. She gets really excited NOT helping with this chore.

Drummond Castle and Gardens -- Our visit there

[supersize it] [click on any picture for full screen picture]
.
We stayed in Crieff, Scotland, for four nights, starting on 9/11/2007. We got in early in the afternoon and explored the town, got more British Pounds, and scoped out the eating places.
.
Our home for these nights was a lovely bed and breakfast home. Karen came with us for the first week of our two week holiday in Scotland and Isle of Man. More on the B & B later in another post.
.
The first day we also went to the Drummond Castle and Gardens (link). We had a lovely time that day, staying fairly close to Crieff. This castle was only about three miles outside Crieff.

These lovely gardens were just below the castle and gate house. There were flowers, shrubbery, vegetable gardens, and various garden statues.

[supersize it]

The castle is the structure on the right. On the left you are seeing the gatehouse, stables, and servant quarters. The day was warm and I was breathing hard going back up.

The castle was built in 1491 for the Drummond family. It is now a private residence of a Drumond family descendant. I haven't seen this move, but “Rob Roy, legends of the mist” was filmed using the castle as the residence.

See the castle Web site for more information and their pictures (link)..

Mrs. Jim and Karen posed briefly by this garden statue of Adonis. That helped give some size perspective to my picture. (Adonis Wikipedia link)
.

This walkway outside the green houses provided a friend for Karen.

The cat was very friendly. After all this attention it tagged around with us for quite a while. It paid off good for her (the cat), she got more petting.
.

[supersize it]

We weren't allowed to pick fruit, the apples looked really good. I know, these are tomatoes. Take a peek at what they are growing in. I guess if we could get that many tomatoes I could spring for sack of this stuff.
.

[supersize it]

It looks like more than one plant can be planted in these things.

For a couple of other pictures of the Drummond Castle, take a peek at my Three Beauties blog for Friday, below. If it isn't there, click here.
