One Single Impression: Evening

.

At Evening Time

When evening comes I feel
compelled to call the dogs.
Like back at home on the farm
we coerced the chickens into
their coop when evening came.

And do you know that Mother
would would call me
in from play when evening came?

The dogs could get lost in the dark
as dogs just don't see so good at night.
The coyotes would feast--three chickens
a night if we didn't get them in.

Mother worried always when
I was out at night. Even now she does.

The dogs and the chickens and the little folk
what they have in common
is a need they do not know.

A need for safety from the bad of night.

One Single Impression: Quagmire

.
Quagmire

She was in a quagmire, that was sure
with one foot in, the other out
she'd paid the price out of her purse
a price too high this is about

Hubby could know, checkbook keeper
paid instead from the grocery cash
she bought some beans now in deeper
Mother was right, should have a stash

Beans and rice, rice and beans that night
then cake she'd baked and some bubbly
brought it out with candles alight
by its side new watch for Hubby.
