Limerick Truck (Limerick-Off Monday) and a Halloween Limerick

.

Good driver, bad driver

A man who was driving a truck
In the gooey mud he was stuck
He called for his dear wife
She said not on his life
Stuck in muck, he was out of luck

And,

A Halloween Limerick

Ghosts and goblins, gorillas too
Oh dear oh dear, what will we do?
You call 911
Tell what's being done
Cheers!  Happy Halloween to you!

Lou Reed; a tribute

Songs with words I could never write.
Songs written and sung by Lou Reed.
Punk-poet of Rock'n Roll they called him. Singer of the seventies,
many called it "just noise."

But gradually they all, we all, learned a new vocabulary. That was like Lee would say,
"truly, truly a sin."
Things have changed, we have changed.
Like a lie that isn't malicious nor does it
hurt a soul,
maybe it isn't a sin?
.
Things have changed, we have changed.
Words of .s e x .and. d r u g s. are in all the songs of the 2000's now.
Our generation's 1960's and 70's were just a bit ahead of their time. But that made it what it was, a new Bible for song.

So let's all hear it for Lou Reed.
For you, Lou, we will
"Take a Ride on the Wild Side."

                     - - - - - -

...."Walk On The Wild Side"
Holly came from Miami, Florida
Hitch-hiked her way across the U.S.A.
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her legs and then he was a she
She says, "Hey, babe
Take a walk on the wild side"
She said, "Hey, honey
Take a walk on the wild side"

Candy came from out on the Island
In the back room she was everybody's darling
But she never lost her head
Even when she was giving head
She says, "Hey, babe
Take a walk on the wild side"
Said, "Hey, babe
Take a walk on the wild side"
And the colored girls go
"Doo do doo do doo do do doo ..."

Little Joe never once gave it away
Everybody had to pay and pay
A hussle here and a hussle there
New York City's the place
Where they said, "Hey, babe
Take a walk on the wild side"
I said, "Hey, Joe
Take a walk on the wild side"

Sugar Plum Fairy came and hit the streets
Looking for soul food and a place to eat
Went to the Apollo
You should've seen them go, go, go
They said, "Hey, sugar
Take a walk on the wild side"
I said, "Hey, babe
Take a walk on the wild side"
All right, huh

Jackie is just speeding away
Thought she was James Dean for a day
Then I guess she had to crash
Valium would have helped that bash
Said, "Hey, babe
Take a walk on the wild side"
I said, "Hey, honey
Take a walk on the wild side"
And the colored girls say
"Doo do doo do doo do do doo ..."

Sorrow or Surprise Day

Today was sorrow or surprise day for Jakey.
That was what the horoscope said it might be.
Poor Jakey, he didn't know what to do.
How do you conjure up a surprise?
Or how does one avoid his sorrow?

His hands were of no use to him,
neither was his mind.
His destiny was in the stars.
The decision was not his to make,
it would be come what may.

If only he could get up, stand,
and then run away from it all.
But that would not be happening for a bit.
His mother, mother nature, would see to that.
Jakey is a six months old little boy.

- - - - - -

Jakey here is only six months old.  But this happens to many.  The babies in the process of growing of course.  For some children it is temporary.  Others, in various stages of life, from birth through death, suffer defects or trauma.  That might come from birth, accident, abuse, war, disease and sickness, stroke, aging, or other.

I could not write about the latter, just think about them.  I could not emphasize enough to write.  At least not now. So I chose Jakey.  For him there is exuberant hope and expectation.

Watch Where You Step;
A Limerick

A fellow was sneaking a peek
While he was playing hide and seek
What he then saw
Was pretty raw
Spoiled and rotten, it sure did reek

Missed the Mail;
a her and him piece

Post carrier has come and gone
Just a little bit late today
I missed it big, nothing for you
May I e-mail my note of love

I will still love you when you're late
There's nothing witty I can say
Pining away, I miss you so
This is my e-mailed note with love

Note:  I'm not late a lot, at least for the important things.  Most of them.  I'm most infamous for being an hour late for Mrs. Jim's and my wedding.  That was unfortunate and not very much my fault.  It happened over forty years ago so I think the marriage took. (Read more about all that here)

"Lady on the Shelf -- Point of View"

.
Lady on the Shelf

I am in love.

I'm in love with My Lady, a lady fine.

I too am a lady. I'll have a lovely home,
much better than the sweatshop, a smelly place
with smelly workers, where I was born.

But for now my home is where I sit,
on a pretty glass shelf. And with air
conditioning it isn't all that bad.

You see, I am a Lady Bug.
A bright and lovely orange and black spotted
Lady Bug. Not your ordinary kind of lady bug,
I am special. I am for sale now, I cost
a whopping 79 Euros. Costing so much,
for sure I will find a good home.

I will be with the fine lady there.
She will be 'My Lady.'  My future home will be
in that elegant lady's home, tucked in a drawer.

Or better for me and My Lady, I will be on
her special shelf with all of the good smelling things
that fine ladies can have. I am a perfume bottle
in the shape of a Lady Bug, and filled with
one of the finest scents that money can buy.

I am hoping that My Lady will travel often.
That should happen to me since the shelf
I'm on now is at the airport in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
Many, many travelers and business people come
through here.  They have money to spend.

When she travels,
My Lady will place me gently in her purse.
My Lady will use me, that was why I was born.
She will tenderly draw some of my innards
to her finger and gently apply them to her ear.
Behind her ears and on her shoulders,
I will make her smell like Heaven
to those who come near.

After I am empty or grown so very old,
My Lady will no longer use me for perfume.
I would hope that our relationship would have grown so dear
that she will have me rest forever on her vanity.
Imagine me, an empty bottle,
displayed then so prominently.

Much better fare than for my cousins who
will be discarded, thrown down
when their usefulness is gone.

I love My Lady already, sight unseen. She is so fine.

Written today for "Wednesdays with Peggy" at the Imaginary Garden with Real Toads.  The theme today is "point of view."  Please read Peggy's instructions:

......"Point of view and place are both important elements of poetry and story telling. This time take the point of view of an animal -- let's stretch a bit and make it NOT a dog or a cat. You can even choose an imaginary or mythical animal."
.....I stretched that a bit with my bug, a Lady Bug, a Fine Lady Bug.

The Woman's Snake -- Limericks

.
The Woman's Snake;
Two Limericks

A woman encountered a snake
Then it was Hubby, get the rake
Dad got his rake and spade
He raked the snake and prayed
And flayed the snake now in the lake

- - -

A woman encountered a snake
who said, "Of the apple please take"
and promised her the world
Shared with Adam, they whirled,
were gone. God did evacuate

Think Sleep

.

Thinking tonight

Tonight as I lay here and cannot sleep
I think of what my mother has taught me
I tried to get to sleep by counting sheep
My trouble is there are no sheep to see

When the sandman is saying no sleep yet
And I'm so tired, I take my mom's advice
She taught me a trick I will not forget
If I really want to sleep shut my eyes

Note: We have a couple's marriage story about this. I don't ever remember my mother teaching me but once when I could not sleep Mrs. Jim told me to close my eyes. I acted as if I had never heard or known of this help before. It has been a joke between us for many, many years now. "Oh yes, I must close my eyes."
