"Walking the Thames" -- a Kikôbun (travel journal with Poem) -- Carpe Diem

.
.
Walking the Thames . . . . . .

Mrs. Jim, our Grand-daughter KP, and I
walked the Thames from Vauxhall to the
London Eye.  Mrs. Jim and I love to walk
the rivers. The River Seine in Paris and
the Thames in London are our favorites.

On this day KP did some of her walking the
tops of the walls lining the sidewalk.  That
wasn't super easy and oft times she would
have to get down and portage, go around.

Today she met the dark
Under Westminster Bridge
Scary trolls beneath
Safe above, Grandpa below
He fought off the trolls for her

Reached destination
Needed a ticket to ride
Then views from the sky
 Next to Westminster Station
Tube to home, had walked two miles

What's a Kikobun?  "The Japanese literary travel journal (kikôbun) has been closely related to poetry. It characteristically weaves poems and the introductory narratives in a sequential order."  I used two tanka verses to complete with poetry.

Note:  On the upper map, Vauxhall is at the bottom with the London Eye at the top, both bordering the Thames River.  The top picture was taken from KP's flat looking South along the Thames.  Our journey would be North.  Walking up was 1.3 miles, 0.3 miles walking around the site, and another 0.4 miles to the Tube Station at Westminster for our ride back to Vauxhall.

Fireworks and Snow -- Carpe Diem

 . . . . . . . . Fireworks and Snow;
 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Year's end

Elegant display
Illuminates, colors the air
Brightens my soul

   Fading dulled petals
Fell like goats' dark droppings
Fresh snow cover bids cheer

Carpe Diem ~~ Stars; new and old

Stars;
new and old

Star is born today *
Nebula bursting with pride
Hubble telescoped

Catch a falling star
Old song, put it in a jar
Old star fell today

 3.  New star formation"Astronomers searching the sky with NASA's Hubble Space Telescope have discovered an odd little dwarf galaxy in our very own backyard — a mere 7 million light years away.
The findings, ... isolated dwarf spheroidal galaxies are really hard to find, in part because they're missing those telltale nebulae full of hydrogen gas that could have helped feed star formation. In fact, the only other one found in the Local Group, KKR 25, was found by the same research group way back in 1999. KKs3 seems to have an interesting life history that could shed light on the strange processes that formed it. Though most of its stars are 12 billion years old or older, there appear to have been two smaller periods of star-formation around 5 billion years ago and even more recently, around 2 billion years ago or less ..."  Source, Astronomers find 'new' dwarf galaxy in Milky Way's neighborhood at http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/astronomers-find-new-dwarf-galaxy-in-milky-ways-neighborhood/ar-BBhfCxf .

Homophones, love my luv -- Words Count

Love my LUV
.
Homophones, love luv
Love my Chevy LUV pickup
Old truck that I love
_ _ _ _ _ _
.

[Pictured is a 1981 Chevy LUV second generation, made only one year for the U.S.(LINK)]

Notes:
 - A homophone is a word that is pronounced the same as another word but differs in meaning, and may differ in spelling (link).
 - I did take poetic license hear, I have never owned a Chevy LUV but have owned its successor, a Chevy S-10 pickup. I did have a 1972 Datsun pickup which was the same year as the first generation LUVs came out.
 - Also the name besides being a part of a homophone pair is an acronym for light utility vehicle.  You might argue that an acronym is NOT a word, especially a Scrabble word, as it is merely pronounced as if it was a word rather than just a series of individual letters.
