The Ride -- Sunday Challenge poem

The Ride;
Follow, coach, ride, here

Where ever you lead I'm sure to follow (a)
Paths unknown tend to be a bumpy ride (b)
Even so I'll take the chance, you're my coach (c)
In your steps I want to be, now and here (d)

Say it softly and nice, your words I'll hear (d)
Help me to love, encourage me and coach (c)
In my ear, after you will I follow (a)
Cooing and love-struck I'll happily ride (b)

Side by side, the two of us, we will ride (b)
Hugs and kisses with more still to follow (a)
When roll is called always I'll answer, "Here"! (d)
Every trip will be nice, first class or coach (c)

Can't lose me now, I'm sitting in your coach (c)
Right here, flowers in my heart, did you hear (d)
Two make a whole, you please enjoy your ride (b)
My wheels after yours, way they will follow (a)

Body and soul, coach they'll always follow (a)
Here I'll be, stuck with you for my big ride (b)

 - Today, I am linking again with The Real Toads, this time with Marian in her Tuesday post, The Tuesday Platform: NaPoWriMo Eve .  During the month of April a lot of poets and 'poem' writers like me write ONE POEM for/on EACH DAY OF THE MONTH.  I don't think I will do that, I may start out. But sure to look for and read the efforts of the others.

 - Saturday I linked with Björn Rudberg of The Real Toads, at Sunday Mini Challenge - not a sestina but close.   Bjorn wanted us to write a 'near' sestina form poem, mostly shortened.
 - Composing staying within it's rhyme scheme was a bit hard for me to follow.  This is the required rhyme scheme:  A - (Follow) B - (Ride) C - (Coach) D - (Here/hear);   D - C - A - B;   B - A - D - C;   C - D - B - A;   A - B. with the four words here in parenthesis being words which I chose for this poem.  The four letters correspond to the position of each rhyme word.
 - Oh yes, the meaning and/or context of each of four words are supposed to be different for each line.

Raring to go, Spring is here #1 ~~ a Challenge Poem

Our Bags are Packed

Our bags are packed, my Pony is ready
The flowers are blooming, we are raring
Raring to go West, flowers are bluest
Texas Bluebonnets beckon, pictures please

I'll bring my love, park her in the middle
In the middle of the blue bonnet field
We won't be alone, others there gather
Wait 'til the sun is setting, flowers fade

Meanwhile bide our time, walking hand in hand
In the morning the spring dew awaits us
Spring dew, Winter's frost freshened just for us
Top-down day again, off to next fresh start

Today I am linked with Herotomost at The Real Toads, ....An Old Man's Fancy There Corey invited us to write poetry to the spring.  We've had spring here in Southeast Texas ever since February ended.  Yes, our Texas Bluebonnets are out.

The Ford Mustang is my retirement gift to me, I call it an old man's four-wheeled motorcycle.  It is a 1998, now 17 years old and has 102K miles.  It was two years old with 50K when I rescued my little pony from a little old lady.

I also have my Mom's, a 1974 Mustang II Ghia with 78K miles.
The beagle is my Adi Jane, my love and BF.  Adi died in November, 2013.

Cottage on the lake -- Play it Again Challenge

Cottage on the Lake

A little cottage on the lake
Quiet place I can get away
Draw, write, compose, fly time away

Fish in the day and watch for snake
I'll clean my fish then fry and eat
Nature calls, has city life beat

Live off the land, a life to make
Rest and peace brings creativeness
Need no more for persuasiveness

Watch the stars at night while awake
Listen, their story jot it down
Paint the scenes from my sketches drawn

From my small cottage on the lake
I've forgotten business rat race
And done a complete about face

A little cottage on the lake
Fish in the day and watch for snake
Live off the land, a life to make
Watch the stars at night while awake
From my small cottage on the lake

Today I'm linked with

 - Here is the definition:
spoem (ˈspəʊɪm) - noun  (informal)
1.  a poem made up entirely from the subject lines of a different spam emails
2.  a random sequence of words inn the subject line of a spam email, generated to fool spam filters

 - My Spam box today only had nine e-mail messages, the first and last were not Spam as I had deleted it around midnight last night.  Most days I will get between 150 and 250 Spam e-mailings, sometimes even more
 - So I didn't have too much to work with.  The numbers in parentheses (x) denotes how many extra words in each line I used, i.e. were not within the Spam.  I changed tense or case and did NOT count that nor did I count changing the lady's name to Laurie.
 - I used the top and the bottom lines but they are not Spam.  We have visited Isle of Man and loved it.  My maternal grandfather's family (Corkhill) was from Isle of Man.  We talked with one Corkhill while there and found many, many more listed in the phone book.

Happy St. Patrick's Day -- Tuesday Platform

The Leprechauns Will Pinch

Happy St. Patrick's Day
Be sure to wear your green

If you don't have some green
the leprechauns will pinch

If you've got a green car
Drive that today as well

I'll ride my motorbike
Scare naughty ones away

Special Day -- a Challenge Poem

Grandparent's Day at School

Be sure not to miss, only comes one time
wonderful occasion, Grandparent's Day
Experience comes to selected few
Put on your Sunday best, style show of shows

Be on time, little early is better
Sign in with smiling front office people
They will check, background impeccable be
Line up outside library, wait your call

Ten, twenty minutes later child appears
She's full of smiles with a big hug for you
Follow me to the cafeteria
Mac and cheese special today, choclat milk

Papa a picture takes, tyke and Mimi
All smiles still until, loving words of care,
"Better eat your apple dear, can't waste food"
Comes by nature, grandmas can't help, BOSSY

Meanwhile at home, this little piggy stayed
Chicken and special renal food, healthy
And in the fridge desert for after school
Mimi, tyke and papa, Grandparent's Day

Mrs. Jim and I did visit our grand-daughter, KP, at her kindergarten.  Lunch wasn't Mac and Cheese but I can't remember what it was.  Okay for adults but not all the kids were liking it.  KP liked her banana for sure.

The little piggy who stayed home was our Katrin.  She had liver and kidney problems and ate a special diet to help her.  I was nice to her and let her eat out of one of my special Texas Blue Bonnet soup bowls.

Katrin died in September last year.  May she RIP.

A National Pi Day Poem (March 14) for 2015 -- a Challenge Poem

Today I Have Some Apple Pie;
leftover, part of nine inch pie
(a Pi Day Poem)

Three by four and a half inches
That's what my leftover pie is
Apple pie, alamode, my choice
When no ice cream I'll take some cheese

Now let's see how much pie I have
Four and a half is radius
Circumference is 2 times pi
Times the radius.  That's 30

Three inches at the top, which means
My piece is one tenth of the pie
Leftover apple pie I love
Love my host as well, nice neighbor

Circumference   =   2 • π • radius

Sunday Challegne - Akinwande Oluwole "Wole" Soyinka

Morning had Risen

Morning had risen, now the long drive home
Thinking of the night just ended, futile
Futility, chasing demons away
Rats crawled on his skin, up and down his legs

Love of country made him brave but what for
Night after night sleep came in small pieces
Awake for hours, solitary thoughts
Reeking damp hole, months were years, days no end

He'd stopped and wretched his gutty green again
Like in the night last night, drinks were too much
Empty his soul, get rid of those monsters
Made him bleed and cry.  And yell, days of old

War had ended but not over for him
The why of last night.  Liquor was flowing
Loud music to make ones forget their day
It didn't work for him, the rats still crawled
.
.

 Tonight I'm writing for

I am also linking with Kerry O'Connor at
The Real Toads, The Tuesday Platform

Soyinka was an activist in the fight against Nigerian tyrannical rule after their independence from Britain.
In 1967 he was arrested for writings sympathetic to secessionist Biafra and was imprisoned for twenty-two months.

 - We were to read a poem, or more, of his and write what came to mind.  Soyinka's poem, "In the Wee Hours" (link), and "Dedication" (link) were fodder for what I wrote.  Also Wikipedia and Heaven's write-up about Wole Soyinka gave me more insight.

 - You might wish to read a little his works or more about him from these links.

 - Dr. Leeds is 80 years old and has written and taught for most of his life.  He holds honorary doctorates from Leeds, Harvard, and Princeton.  In 1986 Soyinka was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

 - Another 'Brief Bio' and links to a couple other of his poems are here.

'Vegies' and 'More' by Toril -- another Challenge poem

Toril and Tully Collaboration "Beety Babies" 24 x 36

Roots;
and all

Some vegetables I eat
Husk shell, eat seed or greens

Others, the other way
Eat their roots, trash the tops

Life is like that, I know
Values, pride is the guide

The seeds are important
Offspring their legacy

Some worry where'd they come
Of their roots they are proud

Balanced diet I try
Like my roots, love the seeds

Weird - Tuesday Platform

Lost Puppy;
I might be weird
.
This puppy is lost, well perhaps I'm not
Often though I feel lost, a little weird
Happy I am but sense cannot be bought
I bark at dogs, quack with ducks, cows have sneered

Some response I always get, never feared
Give me a bone, I'll howl, my neck you scratch
Please someone, take me home before I hatch

where Marian told of being or feeling weird according to Graham Moore, when accepting the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Imitation Game, February 22, 2015. He said this:
 - "I would like for this moment to be for that kid out there who feels like she’s weird or she’s different or she doesn’t fit in anywhere. Yes you do. I promise you do. Stay weird. Stay different, and then when it’s your turn, and you are standing on this stage, please pass the same message along."
 - Marian further said to us, "we have created a safe space for all to share our poems and to feel safe in being exactly who you--WE--are. Fly your freak flag, friends. Pass it on."

The Mood - a Challenge Poem

Black Was the Mood

Black was the mood back in '33
Stock market had crashed, Jimmy was born
Share cropper's son, potato's good year
Doctor's bill was paid, Jimmy's then 'free'
Dad had his Ford, Jimmy had grandma
Jimmy rode the package shelf, "ooga"
Mama did washing, Dad washed his Ford

Grandma died, Jimmy crashed
