My Little Ship Calls -- Cape Town -- Day 7 of NaPoWriMo 2015

[photo, Cape Town City Bowl taken from Lion's Head

My Little Ship Goes

My little ship goes, it goes
from South Africa this fall
I want to go, really do

Little ship starts her voyage
Cape Town is beckoning us
Calls, my little ship and me

Ocean Princess sails
End of October, spring time
Flowers bloom way down under

Cape Town beckons me dearly
Show me to a game preserve
Ocean Princess calls

I am linked today with Kerry O'Connor at the Real Toads, The Tuesday Platform, continuing with Day 7 of Poems in April, and also Day 7 of NaPoWriMo 2015

Kerry's directions for today are anything goes.  She also reminded me of South Africa.  Ocean Princess is a small ship, holding 685 or so passengers, which will sail from Cape Town to Rome, Italy, taking 35 days.
We sailed her sister ship, the Pacific Princess in the Summer 2013, from Venice, Italy to Istanbul, on into the Black Sea for three stops, and then back to Athens, Greece, stopping at Volos Greece on the way back. (Link) Our KP (youngest Grand-daughter) call it "her little Princess ship".

Making a Star - Day 6 of NaPoWriMo 2015

Did you ever make a star?

Did you ever make a star?
Not possible says you, only God can make a tree.
Or a star?
Like my buddy, B. C. aptly said, it all depends.
Depends on the meaning of the word "star".

Well, did you?
And if you did, do you remember when, why, and how?
Tell us, tell us.
Please give us some encouragement.

Okay, my stars are five pointers.
God's stars are dependent upon the eyes of the seeker.
Also if a telescope is used, the power of that machine.
To tell my view, the real stars
that are made by God have no points.
Only man with imperfect eyes
will infuse beams of light.

How do you make your star, tell us please.

Tell me yours and I'll tell you mine.

First draw five fairly equal-distant points
in circle fashion on your paper.
Then draw lines between each point, skipping one.
Should be five.
Voila,
a five pointed star.
Add color and decorations as you please.

I don't remember why or how I made a star like this.  But I have been proud of them ever since.  And I loved to share my knowledge.  I am sure it was at school at an early grade.  And I know my teacher was very proud along with me.

p.s. I make 'boxes' too, when I doodle.  And my stars are drawn freehand.  The point dots are and probably always were, only placed in my mind.  As are and always were your stars like mine.

Do you remember your first?

EASTER; a Flash 55 Plus Poem -- an Acrostic -- Day 5 of NaPoWriMo 2015

Artist Unknown
(Fair Use)

 EASTER

Easter morning comes
All kids get baskets
Sunday lesson
The Christ has Risen
Easy, puzzling
Resurrection can save us from our sins

Can save if you'll believe
And pray to risen Christ
Now repent and pray to be forgiven

Save you from hell
And live in Heaven
Very short message
Everyone loved by God

- NaPoWriMo 2015 is a project to write a poem every day in April, National Poetry Month.  I am not sure that I will write one every day, we will see.
 - Today I'm linked with piece, "FLASH 55 PLUS ," continuing with Day 5 of Poems in April at the
Imaginary Garden with Real Toads  and also Day 5 of NaPoWriMo 2015

 - Kerry's instructions are to "write a poem or piece of prose in precisely 55 words."

Notes:
1.  This Christian message (I am a Christian) comes from the Bible.  The book of John, Chapter Three, Verse 16 (John 3:16) says,
"For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) (Link)
2.  And
Matthew 20:19, Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) (Link) says,
"Then they will hand Him over to the Gentiles to be mocked, flogged, and crucified, and He will be resurrected on the third day.”

3.  Wikipedia, on Easter and he Celebration of the Resurrection: "Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday, two days after Good Friday, the day of his crucifixion. Easter's date corresponds roughly with Passover, the Jewish observance associated with the Exodus, that is fixed for the night of the Full moon near the time of the spring equinox." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resurrection_of_Jesus

Things we will never see -- Day 4 of NaPoWriMo 2015

Things we will never see .

For sure the wind, pushes our boat
Electrical current, it works
Electrical voltage, it shocks
Do you see light, catch a handful
.
We know the effects of all these
And then some. More, many, we find
Results we know, deductive all
Science finds new ones every day
 .
The wind is simplest, windmills turn
Who can forget those pretty legs
Bared by breeze, Marilyn Monroe--
Lifted her skirt high as her head

Romantic all, better so than
A piece of wire, sail on our boat,
Light bulb, or blade of a windmill
Comes to mind, action, from each force

 - Izzy's directions:  Read the excerpts from Tender Buttons below and write a short poem about an object, foods, or a room in the style of Stein.  I chose some objects, an invisible ones, then devoted a stanza for wind as my prompt for writing my short piece.  Below I am posting one piece of Gertrude Stein's work, Tender Buttons from Izzy's.

Excerpt from Tender Buttons:

"... What is the current that makes machinery, that makes it crackle, what is the current that presents a long line and a necessary waist. What is this current.
What is the wind, what is it. ..."

Crying Song -- Day 3 of NaPoWriMo 2015

I cry when I'm alone

I cry when I'm alone
You've been gone so long, so long
Since you left I sing no song
You know how I cry
I cry when I'm alone

I cry when I'm alone
My cup has run dry, run dry
Can't get past, don't want to try
You know how I cry
I cry when I'm alone

I cry when I'm alone
I wait for you to come back
My system's been out of whack
You know how I cry
I cry when I'm alone

I cry when I'm alone
Baby, I don't eat, don't eat
The dog cries, misses her treat
You know how we cry
We cry when we're alone

I cry when I'm alone
I cry for you all the day
"Come back," every night I pray
You know how I cry
I cry when I'm alone

I cry when I'm alone
Our love shouldn't end this way
I love you still, even more
Do you love me some
And cry when you're alone

Baby, please come home, come home

 - Fireblossom wants us to Write an original NEW song lyric.  She is an excellent singer and does write some of her own songs.  For sure I cannot match that, I've even been told to leave, not sing, in a church choir.
 - My 'song' might be C&W, but since I can't sing, I am not sure.  I tried going along with it and the song does sing a little on its mournful own.

The House, my Home -- Day 2 of NaPoWriMo 2015

The house, my home
.
The house that raised me is no more
First it crashed and fell, none was hurt
Then it crashed and burned, insulted

The house where I was born, first drink
The house where I said my first word
That word was "Von", beloved dog

House of memories, house is gone
House of loving, house of terror
The house can't tell, neither will I

The house was made a home, my rock
Always there for me, family

Notes:
2.  The old home, moved to our farm in the 1910's, pictured above had my sleeping porch on the right,  facing you.  It was this porch upon which the tree fell.
. . .By then the house was abandoned for the raccoons to play and was never restored to be a useable porch.  In the winter I would have frost on my blanket when I awoke in the mornings.  My sister and I sold it in 2007 and the new owners bulldozed and burned our old house.

did you ever know "Abou Ben Adhem?" -- Day 1 of NaPoWriMo 2015

[please click on the picture to make it a bit larger]
[I am the boy in back]

What do you know about Ben

Who do you relate him with?  Yourself?
Abou Ben Adhem I'm talking about
Though many have never heard of this man
He was my favorite poetry hero

Besides Kilmer's "A Tree" and nursery rhymes,
I'd recite Abou Ben Adhem from heart
Always have loved the 'rhymes, still repeat most
"A Tree" was first  memorized, no big deal

Why do I like Abou Ben Adam still?
He, my kind of guy, 'loved his fellow man'
One room school, heard it over and over
My older school mates memorized it too

Him and Leigh Hunt I try to imitate

 - There generally were between eight and ten in our one room, grades 1-8, country school in rural Nebraska.  I am not really sure that the others memorized Abou Ben Adhem for me to hear.
 - I first met Ben from my mother's poetry book that I found when doing some childhood snooping.  My teacher was happy that I had memorized it as my literature project.  I still have her little book.

Abou Ben Adhem

By Leigh Hunt 1784–1859 Leigh Hunt

Abou Ben Adhem (may his tribe increase!)
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace,
And saw, within the moonlight in his room,
Making it rich, and like a lily in bloom,
An angel writing in a book of gold:—
Exceeding peace had made Ben Adhem bold,
And to the presence in the room he said,
"What writest thou?"—The vision raised its head,
And with a look made of all sweet accord,
Answered, "The names of those who love the Lord."
"And is mine one?" said Abou. "Nay, not so,"
Replied the angel. Abou spoke more low,
But cheerly still; and said, "I pray thee, then,
Write me as one that loves his fellow men."

The angel wrote, and vanished. The next night
It came again with a great wakening light,
And showed the names whom love of God had blest,
And lo! Ben Adhem's name led all the rest.
